


The Renewed Hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially commenced the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Makurdi Highway corridor.
The commissioning of the 227.2km road project took place at the Garaku Toll Station, Nasarawa State.
The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi represented by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, said tolling operations remain pivotal to maintaining of road network in Nigeria, while describing the road corridor as a vital infrastructure route in Nigeria, serving as an essential highway for both the economic and social activities of central and northern regions of the country.
The approved tollgate fees are as follows: Saloon cars – N500
SUV – N800
Minibuses – N1,000, and
Multi-Axle vehicles – N1,600.
Frequent road users, such as commercial light vehicles defined under the Federal Highway Act, will enjoy a 50% discount, while bicycles, motorcycles, and other two-or three-wheeled transport modes used by disadvantage groups will be exempted from the toll gate charges.
A brief on the project showed that toll gates on the routes are divided into four sections: Keffi-Akwanga and Lafia Makurdi.
The agreement falls under the Highway Development Management Initiative (HDMI) Phase 1 framework, which seeks to engage private sector participation and the management of key federal road corridors across the country.
The tolling was commissioned to Messrs China Harbour Operations and Maintenance Company Limited, in partnership with Catamaran Nigeria Limited, who will be responsible for tolling, maintenance, and overall operations throughout a 25-year period.
