The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced vocational courses such as interior design, GSM repairs, plumbing, hairstyling, and makeup into the primary and secondary school curriculum.
This development, announced by the Ministry of Education in January 2025, aims to bridge the gap between formal education and employable skills.
According to the Ministry, the initiative aligns with global trends in education, emphasizing a blend of academic learning and vocational training to prepare students for diverse career paths.
By integrating these skill-based subjects, the government seeks to promote creativity, self-sufficiency and foster entrepreneurship among young Nigerians.
Speaking on the policy, the Ministry noted that the new curriculum would be phased into schools nationwide over the coming academic sessions.
The government also pledged to provide training for teachers and necessary resources to ensure the effective implementation of the curriculum.
