Former Governor of Bayelsa State and serving Senator, Seriake Dickson, has criticized the defection of his successor, Governor Douye Diri, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Dickson expressed disappointment over Diri’s decision, saying there was no compelling reason for a sitting second-term governor to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under which he rose to prominence.
“Everyone is rushing to the ruling party; you don’t even know what is pushing them or what they are pursuing.
“The governor consulted me several times, and I was not convinced because I didn’t see any compelling reason for a second-term governor to defect.” Dickson said.
The senator reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the PDP, stressing that political stability and ideological consistency are vital for Nigeria’s democracy.
“For me, politics should be about principles, not convenience. I remain committed to the PDP because it has provided a platform for many of us to serve and contribute meaningfully to our people,” he added.
9News Nigeria reports that Governor Diri had earlier in the day announced his resignation from the PDP, citing “obvious reasons,” and declaring his decision to join the APC as part of what he described as a new chapter in Bayelsa’s political direction.
