Earlier today Tuesday 25-01-2022 there was a protest stagged by IMO TANKER DRIVERS in the capital city Owerri to attract government attention against the alleged harassment being meted on members by the Imo state task force agents attached to control their activities in the state.

Meanwhile, the Association blocked the entire entraces of the state through the World bank area, Owerri-Onitsha cum Owerri Port-Harcourt road and Bank road via Assumpta Cathedral axis and caused a lot of vehicular traffic untill the time when the Government Officials came to address their plight as gathered by 9News correspodent in Owerri.

While speaking to the press, the leaders of the Association of tanker drivers in Imo State said his men went on a protest by blocking popular control junction in the heart of the capital city Owerri, alleging incessant harassment of their union members by some taskforce team.

The union led by their executives blocked all entrance to the capital city almost throughout the day as those coming into the city from Onitsha, Port Harcourt were seen stranded.

On hearing the situation of things the Owerri Capital Development Authority,OCDA boss Engr. Francis Chukwu, alongside with other government appointees, quickly rushed down to Control post to resolve the crisis and restore peace.

Chukwu pleaded with the executives of the union to always learn to resolve issues amicably with State government through dialogue,as government is always ready to set-up committee to resolve all union pressing issues.

He maintained that the shared prosperity government of His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma works with human face and would ensure that peace is enjoyed by all citizens of the State.

On sighting Some of the government appointees in company of the OCDA GM , the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Affairs, Hon. Eric Uwakwe, Chairman of NURTW Samuel Udeh, among others, the union executives assembled their members and WITHDRAW the PROTEST, AS OCDA GM INTERVENED.

A call in the right direction is to find a lasting solution to stop a repeat of such maltreatment of Tanker Drivers by government taskforce agents and to caution Imo Tanker union to be guided by government directives as agreed upon.
