The Kano State House of Assembly has dissolved all the five Emirate Councils in the State, saying Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf has the sole power to support new Emirs.
This was sequel to deliberation on the floor of the House during plenary on Thursday.
The Kano State Emirate Council Amendment Bill was considered on the floor of the House after scaling second and third readings on Thursday morning. Earlier the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Butu Butu, explained that repealing the law would revive the lost glory of Kano as the division of Kano Emirate to five reduced capacity and dignity of the State at national to level.
The Majority Leader, Alhaji Lawan Hussain Dala, said the Council served as a custodian of culture which was distorted by the creation of additional emirates.
