The National Convention of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) held on May 9, 2026, in Abuja recorded seven key resolutions aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
To solidify its foundation, the convention first adopted the new national leadership structure of the party
For the purpose of solidifying the foundation of the party, the convention approved a new National Executive Committee (NEC) to coordinate party affairs nationwide, including national, zonal, and state leadership structures.
The second resolution was to ratify all grassroots congresses
To ratify all grassroots congresses delegates formally endorsed the completion of ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, affirming the legitimacy of the party’s grassroots-driven structure.
Thirdly critical reforms were adopted to improve transparency in internal elections, strengthen delegate accreditation, and discourage imposition of candidates.
The fourth resolution was the approval of 2027 electoral roadmap to ensure early preparation for presidential, governorship, and legislative elections in full compliance with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations.
The commitment to comply with the Electoral Act while ensuring security coordination and peaceful conduct during all future party activities was the fifth resolution of the party.
The sixth resolution considered unity among members and their commitment to party unity, internal conflict resolution, and disciplinary measures against anti-party activities.
The policy trust of the party formed part of the seventh resolution
To this end, the convention outlined major focus of the party policy trust to include:
Economic reform, Job creation, Power sector restructuring, Anti-corruption enforcement and Electoral reforms
