The House of Representatives Committee on Area Council’s and Ancillary Matters has queried the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State Dr. Mariya Bunkure, for failing to defend the 2025 budget for Area Council’s.
The Committee Chairman, Honourable Fred Agbedi, described her absence as unacceptable, warning it could jeopardize proper legislative scrutiny.
He stressed that the budget segment under her supervision was not covered when FCT Minister Nyesom Wike appeared before another committee.
Dr. Bunkure apologized, citing short notice, and requested more time to prepare. She was unable to disclose the total proposed sum for her agencies when asked.
The committee directed her to reappear for the budget defense on June 2, 2025.
