Human rights activist and One Love Foundation Convener, Chief Patrick Eholor, has launched a new legal action by filing a notice of appeal against the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja. Presided over by Justice J. Omotosho, the court had validated the position of Hannatu Musawa as Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy despite her concurrent status as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.

This appeal follows revelations that Musawa was appointed to President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet while still serving as an NYSC member. Chief Eholor, through his legal representative, Advocate Samuel Ihensekhien Jr., argues that Musawa’s dual roles violate the NYSC Act and its regulations.

On Friday, June 21, 2024, Eholor and his legal team filed the notice of appeal at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking transmission to the Court of Appeal. Chief Eholor, dissatisfied with the High Court’s judgment, expressed his commitment to the constitutional process and his belief in the Nigerian judiciary.

Eholor emphasized that according to the Supreme Court’s 2019 ruling in the Modibbo vs. Usman case, an NYSC member lacks the qualifications to contest any political office or engage in partisan politics, as demonstrated by Musawa’s appointment. Determined to seek justice, he is prepared to challenge the High Court’s decision to the fullest extent.
