The Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) on Friday, welcomed a high-powered delegation from the World Bank, led by Naora Arfua.
The purpose of the visit was to engage in discussions on potential collaborations and support for the Nigerian mining sector.
Director-General of the MCO, Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom, led discussions with the World Bank delegation as both organisations explored ways to increase the contribution of the mining sector to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
Head of Media Relations, MCO, Mr. Patrick Osuji confirmed to our correspondent that the discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, including leveraging technology to enhance the efficiency and transparency of mining operations and ensure its optimal contribution to the economy.
In a statement, Osuji explained that the meeting aimed to promote sustainable pratices in the mining sector to ensure environmental protection and social responsibility.
“The World Bank delegation expressed their admiration for the efforts of the MCO to transform the mining sector through digitalization and transparency initiatives.”
They also highlighted the Bank’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development goals, particularly in the extractives sector.
“The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to explore potential partnership opportunities that would benefit the Nigerian mining sector and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
Also present at the meeting were management staff of Mining Cadastre Office.
