A 40-year-old man has allegedly set his wife on fire is Asa Umudim in Isisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State, resulting in the death of one of his daughters while two other children and his wife are battling for their lives in a hospital.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 17, 2025, is said to have been triggered by the man’s suspicion that his wife was having an affair, reportedly due to her phone frequently ringing.
The suspect was said to have accused his wife of always picking phone calls from men suspected to be her boyfriends.
According to local sources, the suspect doused his family with flammable substance before igniting the fire.
Authorities have yet to release official statements, but the incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing grief and outrage.
Angry villagers were about to lynch the suspect when the police arrived and arrested him.
The spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who confirmed the incident said investigation is ongoing.
The body of the daughter has been deposited in mortuary.
