The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Mohammed Kasim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Announcing the results on Sunday, the electoral body confirmed that Kasim secured a total of 22,165 votes, defeating his closest rival from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 17,788 votes.
Other contenders in the race trailed behind, with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) garnering 1,687 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secured 1,336 votes.
With this victory, the PDP candidate clinches the chairmanship seat for Gwagwalada Area Council, marking a significant win for the party in the FCT’s local government elections.
INEC officials stated that the election was conducted in accordance with electoral guidelines, with results collated from polling units across the area council before the final declaration.
