Plateau Government Approves ₦350M for Borehole Revamp, Calls for Peace and Tolerance

The Plateau State Government has approved ₦350 million for the rehabilitation of boreholes across the state as part of efforts to improve water supply and address shortages in affected areas.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang announced the approval during a state dinner for the breaking of fast with the Muslim Ummah, held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.

He acknowledged the water supply challenges affecting parts of Jos North and South LGAs, assuring residents that efforts were underway to resolve the situation.

Speaking on the significance of Ramadan, Governor Mutfwang described fasting as a spiritual exercise meant to cleanse individuals of sin.

He emphasized that the Iftar gathering provided an opportunity for unity and dialogue toward achieving lasting peace and religious tolerance in Plateau State.

The governor urged the Muslim community to sustain the current peace in the state and ensure that the past eras of fear and anxiety were permanently put to rest.

He also called for support for the recently signed Executive Order suspending mining activities in the state and advocated for increased efforts in promoting girls’ education.

In his welcome address, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Jerry Satmark, expressed confidence that the event would foster greater religious tolerance, respect, and understanding among different faiths.

Delivering a brief lecture on peaceful coexistence, the Chief Missioner of JNI in Jos North LGA, Sheikh Mustapha Gwarando, stressed that diversity in creation was intentional, underscoring the importance of religious tolerance.

Similarly, the State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), RevFather Polycarp Lubo, urged the faithful to rely on the Holy Qur’an for guidance rather than solely on religious leaders’ interpretations.

The Emir of Kanam, HRH Babangida Ibrahim, represented by Alh. Garba Abdulqadir, commended Governor Mutfwang for his efforts in fostering peaceful coexistence across the state.

The event was attended by top government officials, security chiefs, religious leaders, youth representatives, and community leaders from all 17 LGAs of Plateau State.
