The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended four individuals involved in a syndicate specializing in forgery, impersonation, and Job racketeering.
The suspects, identified as Khuzaifa Tafida, Zakari Abdullahi, Abdullahi Buba, and Adeyemo Morufu, were arrested by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Investigation Squad.
According to the statement issued by Police spokesperson Muyinwa Adejobi on Tuesday, the suspects forged classified government documents to defraud unsuspecting victims.
Their scheme involved promising fake job placements at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, and other federal agencies in exchange for money.
Among the forged documents were one resembling a recommendation from the office of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and another mimicking correspondence from the State House, Abuja.
These documents were reportedly presented to the office of the Inspector -General of Police to support 13 individuals for recruitment into the Nigeria Police.
The fraud was uncovered after the Special Assistant to the President filed petition prompting a discreet investigation.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to their crimes, admitting to fabricating documents to deceive their victims.
Police operatives recovered forged documents, official stamps, N1.7 million cash, and other incriminating materials.
The Police warned the public to avoid dealing with individuals offering unofficial recruitment or assistance to secure government jobs.
