PRESS RELEASE: APPRECIATION TO STUDENTS POPULACE FOR THEIR RESILIENCE IN ENSURING JUSTICE IS ACHIEVED FOR OUR DEAR BROTHER MALIQ

Martin Luther King said and I concur “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”
You will recall that we lost a promising young student at his prime to the cold hand of death by a reckless motorcyclist cum sheer incompetence exhibited by school clinic.

Since the inception of this unfortunate incident incident Ogun State Institute Of Technology has been thrown into a tumultuous and uninhabitable one owing to the unrelenting, unwavering and steadfastness of the ever courageous students who stood gallantly to ensure justice done to the departed in compensation and also use the medium to table other jaw breaking problems bedevilling the institution as a whole to the management.

Again, I want to commiserate with the family of Yussuf Maleek on the lost of a rare gem, I pray for the repose of his soul and May Almighty Allah give the family and friends the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

Firstly, I want to salute the doggedness, resilience and sagacity of Comrade who irrespective of their affiliation exhibited exceptional gallantry in demanding for a more better, service oriented and well equipped school health care facility amidst other demands. And to the lily-livered comrades who rather will play jiggery-pokery in the face of inept and oppression, ask yourselves if not now when?.

In the same vein, I want to appreciate every students present at the protest ground day in day for their courage indeed you all show that nobody in the world, nobody in history, has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them. I implore you to keep the same energy as injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Conclusively, our struggle has been noticed, our plea has been given attention, school management has resolved to meet with the Students Union Executives (SUG). On this note I want to appeal to all and sundry to give room for dialogue after which we will decide whether to embark on another demonstration or not.

Amandla Awhetu!
