A dramatic scene unfolded at the United Nations General Assembly as several diplomats and.delegates walked out during Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address.

Netanyahu used his speech to strongly criticise Israel’s adversaries and question the positions of several countries, including Britain, France and Turkey. He also directed criticism at Iran’s leadership and New York City’s first Muslim mayor.

The speech was met with protests inside the UN chamber, as some delegates reports shouted and jeered while others while others left the hall in protest.

Members of the Nentanyahu:s delegation, however, remained in the chamber and applauded throughout parts of his address.

The disruption became so pronounced that the presiding officer appealed for calm and called on delegates to maintain order.

Outside the UN headquarters in New York, protesters also gathered to demonstrate against Israel’s actions, with some displaying placards calling for an end to what they described as genocide.

At least 100 people protesting against Netanyahu’s visit were detained. Among them were the Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon and Emmy-winning actress Hannah Einbinder.
