Rema bags 2023 MTV European Music Award

Popular Nigerian singer, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, won the maiden “Best Afrobeats” award at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards.

The ‘Best Afrobeats’ is a new category of awards in 2023 event.

Grammy-award winning Nigerian artiste, Burna Boy lost three awards; “Best Afrobeats”, “Best African Act’, and “Best Live Performer.”

The African nominees were Aya Nakamura, Asake, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, and Rema.

The Organizers announced the winners on Sunday, November 6, 2023, although the award gala was cancelled due to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Rema was awarded the “Best Afrobeats” singer, while Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz won the ‘Best African Act’ category.

However, American music star, Taylor Swift topped the winners chart with three awards at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards.
