There is tension As the newly appointed local government administrator for Obio/Akpor, Dr. Clifford Ndu Walter, was captured on video personally tearing down a billboard bearing the image of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, 9News Nigeria reports.
The footage, which surfaced on social media on Saturday, shows Dr. Walter—who was sworn into office just a day ago—leading the physical removal of the billboard at the local government secretariat.
Governor Fubara was suspended in March under controversial circumstances by President Bola Tinubu. In his place, a sole administrator, Ibok-ete Ibas, was appointed to oversee the state for an initial period of six months.
Rather than de-escalating tensions, Ibas’s tenure has seen sweeping changes, including the suspension of Fubara’s political appointees and the installation of new local government administrators across all 23 local government areas.
Critics argue that the appointments appear to consolidate power in favour of former governor Nyesom Wike, Fubara’s political rival and a central figure in the ongoing crisis.
