The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at political actors in Rivers State who have recently declared loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He accused them of being absent when support for the President was politically risky.
Wike made the remarks on Saturday during a visit to Rivers State, where he reflected on his political camp’s role in mobilising support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
“As far as Rivers State is concerned, my camp led the support for President Tinubu even when it was tough for some people.
“So all these people that are now singing ‘on your mandate’, at that time, they could not sing it.” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor’s comments were widely interpreted as a jab at politicians who, according to him, distanced themselves from Tinubu during the campaign period but have since aligned with the President following his electoral victory.
Wike’s visit to the Assembly follows ongoing political realignments in Rivers State, where tensions between rival political factions continue to shape governance and party dynamics in the state.
Since his appointment as FCT Minister, Wike has remained a central figure in national politics, often drawing attention for his blunt remarks and influence within both federal and state political structure
