Media officer of the Super Eagles, Babafemi Raji, has said the era of keeping Nigerians on the edge of their seats whenever Super Eagles are involved any major international qualifiers are over. The media officer said Franco-German coach, Gernot Rohr, has put an end to that since his appointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in 2016. According to Raji, Rohr has qualified the Super Eagles for the 2019 AFCON in Egypt and Russia 2018 World Cup with matches to spare. He words, “Nigerians have thrown away their calculators since Coach Gernot Rohr was appointed in 2016 and we want to keep this momentum. The players too are not going to let their guard down as they take on their Sierra Leonean counterparts at today at the Samuel Ogbemudia, Benin City. They know what is at stake and they want to put smiles on the faces of their compatriots for the support at all times. The spirit in the camp is high and I believe that after 90 minutes, the Super Eagles will fly over the Leone Stars.” Raji added that competition for the number one spot has been high and very healthy among the trio of Daniel Akpeyi, Maduka Okoye and Sebastian Osigwe who have all displayed the maturity and calmness to stand between the sticks from 5pm today.
