Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday criticized his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alleging that he has neglected governance priorities in favor of pursuing a second term in office. Wike made this assertion during a media briefing at his residence in Abuja.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory expressed disappointment regarding what he described as misplaced priorities by the Rivers State Governor, specifically highlighting the failure to present the 2026 state budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly.
“The Governor has yet to submit his budget to the House of Assembly, yet he is preoccupied with his campaign for a second term,” Wike stated.
Wike further condemned Fubara for focusing predominantly on political campaigns and re-election efforts at the expense of essential governance responsibilities, including the prompt submission of the appropriation bill. He warned that such delays could impair the effective functioning of government operations and hinder the delivery of critical services to the citizens of Rivers State.
This comment underscores the enduring political tension between Wike and Fubara, who was once considered an ally. The relationship between the two has been strained since Fubara assumed office in 2023, resulting in recurrent public disagreements and political realignments within the state.
