Revealed: Fashola Inflated Roads Project From N9bn To N54bn, After Delaying It For 5Yrs, Says Contractor

The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigated road projects under the Ministry of Works under Babatunde Fashola.

During the hearing on Thursday, a construction company, DC Engineering Limited accused the officials of the Federal Ministry of Works of inflating a road contract from the agreed amount of N9.8bn to N54.3billion.

It was stated that the road contract in question is the construction and rehabilitation of 41km of ijebu-Igbo- Ita-Ibadan Road. Which have stayed over 5 years after it was awarded.

This particular contract became a source of deep concern leading to the setting up of an ad hoc committee by the speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Abbas.

The Executive Director of DC Engineering Limited, Engr Ade Adedeji who was invited by the committee, Hon Kwamoti Bitrus Laori, disclosed in the full glare of the public that the contract was supposed to be completed within 2 years but it took the Federal Ministry of Works, 5 Years, 2018-2023 before it was able to pay 15% mobilization fund of N1.3 billion.

They also tender the letter of the award of the contract, Engr Adedeji alleged that having been inflated it became a challenge for the Federal Government to fund the project, Our Correspondent gathered.

He said they were so shocked to notice that the same ministry that refused to review the contract upward to at least N14 billion, re-awarded the same contract to AREATECH Construction Limited at the sum of N54.3 Billion without the termination of their contract ” he added “
