We have confirmed that the thriving business of kidnapping, banditry , and terrorism across the country is made possible with the use of illegal SIM cards.
So, we are working assiduously to eliminate such sale of illegal SIM cards used by the perpetrators.
The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida made the assertion when he addressed media executives in Abuja.
Dr. Maida said the Commission was working with relevant security agencies in Nigeria to address the challenge.
“We have been working with the security agencies including the National Identity Management Commission to enable them to face and tackle these challenges.
“Be rest assured that we work closely with the security agencies to achieve the successes that they need.
“One country has been ranked as one of the countries with the highest number of dual-sim phones.
“Dual-sim phones are not a thing for us to celebrate. It speaks to our need to do better, in terms of effective service delivery by our telecommunication companies.
Dr. Maida also explained his vision, which is to put smiles on the faces of telecoms consumers in Nigeria.
This, he said will be done by enabling them to improve on the quality of services that they offer as well as increase investments and allied services in Nigeria.
“We need to put smiles on the faces of consumers with quality services. We want to get to the point where our services will be very reliable and serve the needs of consumers.
“To be able to reach that point, there must be transparency and accountability around billing systems and tariffs.
“That is why we are working hard to simplify the tariffs and billings knowing that telecoms services have become very critical to our lives and we must make it work well and serve Nigerians.”
