Pastor Adeboye Responds To Criticisms Over Marriage Injunction

You must have heard about the marriage injunction issued to members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God by their General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye. It is already two weeks since the revered man of God made the statement that went so viral it led to a storm on social media and even the BBC feasted on it.

During one of his many sermons at the recently held annual convention of the RCCG, the former university don advised young men in his church not to marry a woman who cannot cook while especially urging them to desist from marrying a woman who cannot pray for a minimum of an hour at a stretch.

Pastor Adeboye also urged spinsters not to marry a man who had no job or couldn’t show concrete evidence of his means of livelihood. There were also messages concerning other areas from the man widely referred to as Daddy G.O including the one that warns RCCG pastors across the country to refrain from match-making couples.

In reacting, many Nigeria celebs who have made their intentions known about the matter disagreed with the pastor, some mildly but a few others like Kemi Olunloyo did that in very strong terms.

The likes of Lola Rae, Sean Tizzle, Freeze, Noble Igwe and many others said wives are to be regarded as companions and helpers instead of cooks. It led to a social media hash tag #Wifenotcook which many young Nigerians freely employed while the camp of those defending Pastor Adeboye was also very large.

In support of Pastor Adeboye, recently divorced Rhythm FM OAP, Toke Makinwa tweeted: “Pastor Adeboye did not say anything bad, if anything I would hope the women take the advice on men seriously.”

For Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, host of Rubbin’ Minds on Channels TV, he is lucky because his wife prays for him for one hour every day. As recent as August 17, Cool FM OAP, Freeze, shared a picture of himself and his girlfriend eating at a restaurant with the caption

: “Today, we eat out! #Wifenotcook remember!” Pastor Adeboye has reacted through a message posted on his Facebook page on August 16, the renowned preacher said his message was not for everybody
