It’s the most pulsating football match you might see all season. From the start to finish, every kick of the ball made the heart race. It’s definitely the English Premiership at its best; it’s football in the most electrifying form.
Two giants of English football – Liverpool FC and Manchester City – locked horns today to battle for the position of supremacy. The host had only one thing in mind before the start of the match: to accommodate and contain their hot, rampaging visitor from the other side of Manchester. With a whopping 15 points lead at the top of the EPL table and being unbeaten yet, Manchester City might already be poised to win the title this season, but not without having a taste of the pain of defeat.
The game started on a high note as the two teams came out with top speed, challenging for every ball, closing down tackles, and running with quick intent. Liverpool however drew first blood in the 9th minute. Former Arsenal midfielder, Oxlade Chamberlain took the ball from the middle of the pack, ran through two tackles and drew an unstoppable low drive to the corner of the City post. It was his fourth goal of the season and a brilliant way to kick-off the fiesta of goals. Manchester City responded in the 40th minute with a stunning shot from Leroy Sane to beat goalkeeper Karius in his near corner.
Despite the sale of talisman Phillipe Coutinho to Barcelona, Liverpool didn’t look ruffled. The second half started with much the same tempo as the first and within six minute of the restart, the host was already 2-1 up. Fast forward to the next nine minutes and the score line was showing 4-1. Goals from Roberto Firminho, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah seem to have shattered Manchester City to shreds. Apparently, the hope of having another ‘invincible’ after Arsenal was destroyed. It was almost a humiliating night for Pep Guardiola’s side. However, they fought harder towards the end of the game and brought the score line to a respectable margin. It ended 4-3 in favour of Liverpool FC. It was a seven goal thriller to end an unforgettable weekend of exhilarating football across Europe.
Manchester City might still be 15 points ahead at the top of the league table and confident to win the title, but with their first loss of the season in the bag, they certainly won’t be running away stainless.
