An Igbo group, the Igbo Awareness for Development Initiative (IADI), has condemned the Fulani herdsmen killing in Enugu State, blaming the inaction of the Federal Government and the Enugu State Government for the occurrence.
It also urged the state government to follow the footsteps of Ekiti State Government by supporting local vigilante to protect their communities.
The killing which took place on August 26th, 2016 in Ndiagu, Attakwu, Akegbe-Ugwu communities in Nkanu-West Local Government Area is the latest addition to a recurring Fulani Herdsmen onslaught in Enugu State.
A statement signed by Dr. Randie Anayo Dikeukwu for Board of Trustees of the group said;
“Sadly, this situation has been made possible by the inability of the Federal government to crackdown on the herdsmen as well as the failure of the Executive Governor of Enugu State—Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to devise meaningful security strategy to protect people living in the State.
“We condemn also the silence of Igbo politicians, especially the House of Representative Members and Senators who have continued to act as if the slaughter of their kinsmen back home is not happening. By not coming out to condemn or protest these killings, they have shown that they care only about themselves rather than the communities or people they purport to represent.
“Governor Ugwuanyi should follow the Ekiti State governor’s (Governor Ayo Fayose) approach to provide logistics and moral support to community vigilante groups if further encroachment and onslaught by the Herdsmen is to be prevented.
