Nigeria’s Minister of Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, addressed the controversy surrounding her lack of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate during a live appearance on Channels TV on Sunday.
Responding to a direct question from anchor Seun Okinbaloye, Musawa firmly stated that she had done nothing wrong and that more details would be provided soon.
“I did nothing wrong. Very soon I’ll give my account of everything,” Musawa said, dismissing allegations of impropriety related to her appointment.
The minister also added that she had participated in more aspects of the NYSC program than most Nigerians, insisting that there is more to her story than what has been reported so far.
Musawa’s NYSC status has been the subject of intense scrutiny since her appointment.
Many critics have argued that holding public office without completing the mandatory NYSC program, which is required for Nigerian graduates under the age of 30, contradicts legal provisions.
Her response on Sunday marks her first public comment on the matter.
However, the minister promised to offer more clarification in the coming days, potentially throwing more light on the circumstances that led to her appointment without the commonly required NYSC certification.
