WaterAid Nigeria, with funding from DP World, on Wednesday launched the ‘Advancing Inclusive WASH in Lagos (AI-WASH)’ project for Ikorodu North and Ojodu LCDAs.
The project aims to promote access to safe Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services in underserved communities and schools across the two local council areas.
Mr Emmanuel Iorkumbur, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Fundraising at WaterAid, described the project as a milestone in advancing universal WASH access by 2030.
He said the AI-WASH project places inclusivity at the centre of development, ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing essential services.
“This project is not just about providing services; it’s about inclusion and ensuring that vulnerable individuals benefit from safe water and sanitation.
“We are grateful to DP World for their investment and to the PepsiCo Foundation for their continued partnership and recommendation,” Iorkumbur said.
He said the 12-month project would focus on improving health outcomes, gender equity, and environmental sustainability in local communities.
Miss Ruth Agwulobia, of WaterAid’s Fundraising Team, said the funding marks a new phase in WaterAid’s mission to deliver lasting impact through strong partnerships.
She said the collaboration with DP World combines technical expertise and government commitment to advance inclusive and sustainable WASH services in Lagos State.
Agwulobia added that the project would prioritise women, girls, and families in underserved areas, noting that WASH is a fundamental human right.
Mr Ibrahim Apanishile, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, commended WaterAid and its partners for supporting local communities with life-changing initiatives.
He urged residents to maintain provided facilities, stressing that proper upkeep would attract more developmental projects to their communities.
The AI-WASH project reinforces WaterAid Nigeria’s commitment to community-driven partnerships that promote public health and strengthen resilience in Lagos State’s WASH sector.
