The Senate Thursday confirmed the nomination of Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Confirmation of Dr. Doro’s ministerial appointment by the Senate followed brief appearance he made before it in plenary.
During the brief screening session, Dr. Doro told Senators that he would bring his enormous experience and certification across the facets of Pharmacy, Medicine, Law and Insurance to bear on impactful crafting and implementation.
He specifically stated that If assigned humanitarian portfolio as Minister, that ecosystem shall be used to solve humanitarian crisis.
“I want to contribute my quota to the Renewed Hope Agenda by transferring the different experiences to help in policy crafting and implementation. I should be a voice that’ll impact the country positively.
“Should I be assigned the Humanitarian Ministry? What I will be looking to do in order to bring some innovation into the Ministry will be to create a humanitarian ecosystem that is efficient, that’s transparent, and that is centered on person that is being cared for.
“And this is in view to bring dignify to the individual, to ensure that the needs of this individual is met. And this will be done based on principles that are well established in providing humanitarian action.
“Things around impartiality, things around independence, things about just being human in our care for people”, he said.
Impressed by the knowledge and competencies displayed by the nominee, the Senate on the strength of motion moved by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo South) which was seconded by Senator Diket Plang (Plateau Central) told him to take a bow and leave, and thereafter, confirmed his nomination.
Dr. Doro who is from Plateau State was nomination last week by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister holds Degrees in Pharmacy and Law and a Masters Degree in Business Strategy and Advanced Clinical Practice.
He is the third person appointed as Minister from Plateau State under the current administration.
First to be appointed was Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, who later won a court case and proceeded to the Senate.
Also appointed was Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, who also later vacated the ministerial seat, after being appointment the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
