The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has denied allegations by Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) that sophisticated phone-tapping equipment was discovered during a recent search of his property.
In a statement issued on Monday March 2, 2026, and signed by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, the family described the claim as false and unfounded.
The ICPC had reportedly alleged that surveillance devices and sensitive documents were discovered during the operation. However, the family maintained that only old mobile phones, flash drives and laptops were taken from the residence.
The statement also addressed claims that El-Rufai refused to cooperate with investigators, insisting that he exercise his constitutional right to remain silent and challenged the commission to file charges If there is evidence against him.
Furthermore, the family questioned the legality of search warrant used for the operation, starting that their legal team has challenged its validity in court.
They expressed confidence in the judiciary to resolve the matter, while urging that the case be handled with bounds of the law.
