The Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha (DAM Foundation), in collaboration with the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Youth Wing, has shortlisted 124 applicants for the screening phase of the inaugural Mustapha Abdullahi Energy Leadership Fellowship (MAELF).
The fellowship, designed to develop the next generation of energy leaders and innovators, received 1,212 applications from young Nigerians and Africans seeking opportunities to contribute to the transformation of the energy sector.
MAELF is a seven-day residential programme focused on equipping participants with knowledge and practical skills in renewable energy, energy transition policies, climate action, leadership, and governance.
The initiative aims to prepare young professionals to play key roles in addressing energy challenges, promoting sustainable development, and supporting innovation within Nigeria’s energy industry.
Speaking on the programme, APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel, described MAELF as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future.
He said the growth of Nigeria’s economy and industrial sector depends largely on the quality of leadership in the energy space.
“Through MAELF, we are building a new generation of energy experts, policy innovators, entrepreneurs, and executives who will drive Nigeria’s energy transition and position Africa as a global force in sustainable energy development,” Israel said.
Successful fellows will have access to internship placements, mentorship opportunities, policy engagement platforms, field visits, and grants of up to ₦20 million to support innovative clean energy projects.
The DAM Foundation and APC National Youth Wing said the fellowship aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Nigeria’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
According to the organisers, the programme will create a strong network of young professionals with the expertise and leadership capacity required to shape the future of Nigeria’s energy sector.
The fellowship is expected to serve as a platform for nurturing innovators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers who will contribute to sustainable energy solutions and Africa’s broader transition towards cleaner energy sources.
