A tragic case of domestic violence has claimed the life of a 20 year-old woman in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, leaving behind two young children.
The State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the deceased’s husband, 30-year-old Musbawu Amodu, in connection with the incident, which occurred in Angwan Yahaya area of Agyaragu.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed that the suspect was taken into custody following a complaint lodged at the Agyaragu Police Division alleging that he had assaulted his wife, resulting in her death.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the couple, who had been married for six years, had two children, a boy and a girl.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he attacked his wife during a heated argument after she reportedly refused to prepare food. The disagreement, according to the police, escalated into a violent confrontation that ended in the woman’s death. The suspect was said to have expressed deep remorse over the the incident.
Following the development, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for a comprehensive and expedited investigation.
The Commissioner assured the public that justice would take its full course, adding that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusions of the investigations.
Describing the incident as heartbreaking and entirely preventable, CP Mohammed condemned all forms of domestic violence and appealed to couples and families to resolve disagreements through dialogue, patience, and lawful means, stressing that no domestic disagreement should ever result in the loss of a human life.
