The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the recently concluded Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting was disclosed on Friday by Olusegun Dada, the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, who shared a video of the encounter on X.
According to Dada, Tinubu received Oyebamiji, who represented the APC in the Osun governorship election.
The visit came days after Oyebamiji lost the election to incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
The incumbent governor won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while the APC candidate won in 11.
Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner on Sunday, August 16, after the State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, announced the final results.
Following the result, Tinubu congratulated Adeleke, saying the outcome reflected the choice of the people and demonstrated the strength of democracy in Nigeria.
The President urged Adeleke to embrace all residents of Osun and focus on the development of the state.
Adeleke later thanked Tinubu for what he described as his role in ensuring a peaceful, free and fair election.
He also reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s bid to retain the presidency in 2027.
On Thursday, August 20, Adeleke also visited Tinubu at the Presidential Villa and presented his Certificate of Return to the President.
During the meeting, Tinubu urged the governor to show “magnanimity in victory” and work towards peace, unity and stability in Osun.
Oyebamiji’s visit came just a day after Adeleke’s meeting with the President.
Further details of the meeting are expected to emerge.
