Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State.
Mustapha announced his resignation on Friday, 14 August, 2026 in a statement following what he described as “recent developments” within the party in the state.
The senator said the decision followed weeks of consultations and engagements with political stakeholders, his supporters, constituents across Kwara Central and other well-meaning Kwarans.
According to him, his decision was guided by his belief that politics should be centred on people, principles and purpose.
He said where a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with those convictions and the aspirations of the people he represents, “the honourable thing to do is to chart a new course.”
Mustapha expressed gratitude to the APC leadership, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the relationships and experiences he gained during his time in the party.
Mustapha, also known as Turaki of the Ilorin Emirate, did not disclose his next political destination in the statement.
Meanwhile, he assured his constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders that although his political platform may change, his principles, purpose and commitment to the people would remain unchanged.
“I remain steadfast in my service to the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria at large,” he said.
