Jos — Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation ENDURING PEACE have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated revolver and other items during an intelligence-led operation in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The arrest comes amid heightened security operations across Plateau State, where security agencies are intensifying efforts to disrupt the movement and circulation of illegal firearms believed to be contributing to violent attacks and criminal activities.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with local vigilantes, targeted Kisayi and Dogon Daji settlements following the abduction of Dr. Abraham Owoicho on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

According to the Army, some occupants fled into the surrounding bush after sighting the troops. However, a 30 year-old woman identified as Halima Ibrahim was apprehended while allegedly attempting to escape with two AK-47 rifle magazines.
A subsequent cordon-and-search operation at her residence in Kisayi B Village led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated revolver, one military jungle hat and three mobile phones.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the recovered AK-47 rifle allegedly belonged to Halima Ibrahim ‘s husband.
The Nigeria Army said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal networks involved in arms trafficking, kidnapping and other violent crimes across Plateau State.
The Army also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing operations and enhance safety of communities.
