Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio Accuses Ita Toyo of Blame-Shifting, Falsehood, Incompetence

The Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio (MMI) has criticised an interview granted by Arc. Otu Ita Toyo, accusing him of incompetence, cowardice and making misleading claims during the broadcast.

In a statement signed by its International Public Relations Officer, Akparawa Idongesit Ikono, on Wednesday, MMI said the interview had raised more questions rather than provided clarification on the issues under discussion.

The organisation accused Toyo of attempting to distance himself from a controversial State Government publication produced under his watch, alleging that he shifted responsibility to a subordinate officer instead of accepting accountability.

MMI said such conduct raised questions about his suitability for public office, arguing that public officials must be prepared to take responsibility for actions carried out under their supervision.

The group also accused Toyo of contradicting himself over the alleged change in the location of the Ibom Deep Seaport.

According to MMI, Toyo admitted during the interview that the alleged change did not occur under the administration of former Governor Udom Emmanuel, yet continued to link the former governor to the controversy.

The organisation described the position as contradictory and accused Toyo and his alleged sponsors of pursuing a campaign aimed at damaging Emmanuel’s reputation and legacy.

MMI also challenged Toyo and Oro leaders to respond to claims by Senate President Godswill Akpabio that he held 26 meetings with the Oro Think Tank over the choice of Ekpenyong Ntekim as governor, but that the group rejected him because he was from Okobo.

The organisation questioned whether some of the circumstances now being described as marginalisation could have resulted from decisions taken by Oro political actors themselves.

MMI further warned individuals and groups within the Oro community against what it described as provocative attacks on Ibibio leaders and the Ibibio people.

While stressing that it does not support violence, the organisation said it would respond firmly and lawfully to what it considers deliberate attacks, using evidence and legitimate channels.

MMI called on responsible leaders in the Oro community to promote restraint and resolve political and historical disagreements through dialogue, facts and lawful processes.

The organisation said it remained committed to peace and peaceful coexistence in Akwa Ibom State, but insisted that such peace must be based on truth, dignity and mutual respect.
