Many people have been feared dead as heavy rainfall hits President Buhari’s home state, Katsina and swept away homes and property in the Jibia area of the State.
Unconfirmed reports puts the death so far at 25 with many people still missing and unaccounted for. About 80 homes and many animals are equally lost.
The rainfall accompanied with heavy winds started at about 11pm last night and lasted till 3am this morning have rendered so many homeless.
Most affected areas are those living in Unguwar Kwa-kwa, Unguwar Mai Kwari, Tudun Takari both the new and old setllements as well as Dan Tudu.
Eye witnesses say corpses are being recovered from a near by water reservoir in neighbouring Niger Republic and fallen buildings.
In Unguwar Mai Kwari alone we recovered 10 bodies and have buried them accordingly, a source who was assisting in a humanitarian efforts confided in Daily Trust.
The District Head of Jibia Rabe Rabiu told news men that ‘ over 25 had died and so far 19 bodies have been recovered and buried with many still unaccounted’.
On his part, the Executive Secretary of the state Emergency Management Agency, Dr Aminu Waziri said reports reaching him say close to 20 are dead but he is yet to get a full report as men of the agency have been deployed to the area.
