The alleged vandalisation of an active oil pipeline in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State*, has taken a dramatic turn following the reported arrest of a man identified as Mr. Temple Olocha by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to information reaching 9NEWS NIGERIA, Olocha was reportedly arrested in connection with the alleged pipeline-vandalism incident around Omueke community in Igwuruta.
Sources familiar with the development said that after his arrest, DSS operatives took the suspect away and transferred him to Abuja, where he is reportedly being detained.
The development has generated concern among residents and stakeholders in the area, particularly over allegations that an active oil pipeline may have been tampered with.
Earlier reports surrounding the incident indicated that security operatives had moved against individuals allegedly linked to the suspected pipeline vandalism, with some persons reportedly arrested while others were said to be at large.
The exact circumstances surrounding Olocha’s arrest, the specific allegations against him, and the reason for his reported transfer to Abuja remain unclear.
9NEWS NIGERIA understands that efforts are ongoing to establish the full identities of other persons allegedly connected to the incident and determine their current whereabouts.
As of the time of filing this report, the DSS had not publicly confirmed the reported arrest, detention or transfer of Temple Olocha to Abuja.
The incident is expected to attract further attention given the serious security and economic implications of vandalising petroleum infrastructure in the Niger Delta.
9NEWS NIGERIA will continue to monitor the development and provide updates as more verifiable information emerges.
