Jos — The Federal High Court setting in Jos, Plateau State, has declared Hon. Ayuba Dalyop Mandung the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Jos South State Constituency ahead of 2027 general elections.
Justice Dorcas Agishi, who delivered the judgment on Monday October 12, also restrained the APC and other defendants from presenting Mancha John Vincent as the party’s duly nominated candidate for the constituency.
The suit, marked FHC/J/CS/43/2026, followed a challenge by Mandung over the alleged alteration of the results of the APC primary conducted on May 20, 2026.
Mandung argued that he secured the highest number of votes in Giring Ward before the results were allegedly altered in favour of Vincent.
In its judgment, the court held that the results could not lawfully be altered after they had been announced at the ward level. It also found that Mandung was not accorded a fair hearing.
The court consequently ordered the APC to submit Mandung’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its duly nominated candidate for Jos South State Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
It also issued a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from presenting Vincent as the party’s candidate and directed them to comply with the Constitution, the Electoral Act and the APC ‘s guidelines on candidate nominations. The court further awarded N500,000 each against Vincent, the APC and INEC.
The defendants’ preliminary objections were dismissed before the court determined the substative issues in Mandung’s favour. Mandung was represented by Ritji Timothy Yilwatda, Esq., of Gyang Zi, SAN & Co.
