President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has challenged politicians seeking to lead Nigeria to explain how they intend to finance their campaign promises, warning that commitments without credible funding plans could leave Nigerians and future generations to bear the cost.
President Tinubu gave the warning in a post on his platform on Sunday, stressing that government policies must be financially sustain and supported by clear plans for implementation. He said leaders must balance the immediate relief to citizens with responsibility to protect the county’s future.
He warned that making promises without considering their financial implications could leave Nigerians and future generations to bear the cost.
“As President, I have a duty to provide relief today without compromising our children’s future”, Tinubu stated, adding that sustainability and credible planning guided the administration’s decisions, including those he described as difficult.
Tinubu also highlighted the importance of government investments in improving people’s daily lives, referencing stories of Nigerians who had sought support and access to essential services. He acknowledged that more work was needed to ensure that more citizens benefit from government programmes.
The President further pledged to continue working with state governments to expand access to affordable transportation across the country. He said political leaders should be prepared to explain not only what they promise voters but also how they will deliver and sustain those commitments.
