Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested three suspected drug dealers and uncovered a cannabis farm in Keana Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, Aondaver Dominic, Sylvanus Umoor and Peter Tar were arrested at Sabongida Bature and Gidan Kparev villages, Kadarko.
This was disclosed in a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Ramhan Nansel on Friday in Lafia.
Nansel said the arrests followed an intelligence-led anti-crime patrol targeting a black spot where Indian hemp was allegedly sold and consumed.
He explained that the suspects attempted to escape upon sighting the police team but were overpowered and arrested with large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.
A subsequent search, according to the statement, revealed a farm behind their residence where the illicit substance was being cultivated, with fresh harvests recovered.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Mohammed, has ordered that the suspects and recovered exhibits be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for further investigation and necessary action.
