An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded one Sunday Akpan, 58, who allegedly defiled his 10-year-old stepdaughter.
The accused, a resident of Thomas Estate, Ajah, Lagos, is standing trial on a count charge of defilement.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Peace Chukwudi, told the court that Akpan committed the offence on Dec. 8, around 2.00p.m, at 1004 Building, Thomas Estate, in contravention of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the court did not take the plea of the accused as the prosecution prayed for his remand pending DPP’s advice.
The Magistrate, Mrs K. O. Doja-Ojo, ordered that Akpan should be kept behind bars pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case has been adjourned until Jan. 9 for DPP’s advice.
