Africa Evidence Network launches ‘evidence capacities community of practice (CoP)’


The Africa Evidence Network has launched an engagement platform for communities, named, Evidence capacities communities on 22, November 2023.

This initiative is a significant component of the “Engagements with citizen (community) evidence’ within Evidence-Informed Decision Making (EIDM) ecosystems of Africa.

During the launch, speakers shared their remarks from their different perspectives.

Mrs Siziwe Ngcwabe, Co-chair and Director at the AEN made the opening remarks, stressing the importance of the gathering by providing the context and background of the community of practice.

The event was officially launched by Dr. Zackaria Ibn Abraham, Research Officer, Parliament of Ghana on behalf of Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin; Speaker, Parliament of Ghana. 

The program brought together various stakeholders to engage in constructive discussions concerning the critical role in developing evidence across communities with a focus on transparency.

Panelists proposed effective strategies on how the team can arrive at integral guidelines and several attendees shared their thoughts and expectations of this CoP.

Mr Christopher Chibwana of the Hewlett Foundation expressed support from the Hewlett Foundation and explained how they consider this new CoP as relevant to the growth and sustainability of evidence-informed decision-making practice across Africa.

The AEN launch of this initiative marked a significant step in uniting citizens and communities in evidence gatherings.
