Southern Presidency Talks: The Coalition of PDP Intellectuals Worldwide convened an international press conference on Monday, issuing a rallying call to reposition the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for victory in the 2027 presidential election. The coalition, led by its Publicity Secretary, Hon. Usman Saidu Calculus, emphasized the need to return the PDP to its former glory through strategic reforms and equitable leadership.
At the heart of the conference was a passionate appeal to zone the PDP’s 2027 presidential ticket to the South, a move the coalition argues is essential for restoring balance and unity within the party. Hon. Calculus reflected on the party’s setbacks in the 2015 and 2023 general elections, where internal discord and a failure to embrace equitable zoning led to defections of key members and eventual electoral losses.
The rancor within the party prior to these elections fractured our unity and allowed opposition forces to exploit our weaknesses,” Calculus stated. He stressed that only through equity, fairness, and justice could the party rebuild and reposition itself to reclaim power at the federal level.
The coalition highlighted the presence of capable and dedicated PDP members in the South who could lead Nigeria back to its glory days. Hon. Calculus urged the party’s elders, governors, and stakeholders to prioritize party unity by zoning the presidency to the South, a move he described as a “clarion call for action.
In a stern warning to party leaders, the coalition emphasized that putting the party’s interests above personal ambitions would be the only way to achieve victory in 2027. “This is the time to act decisively and strategically. The future of the PDP depends on it,” Calculus concluded.
As the countdown to 2027 begins, the coalition has urged party faithful to seize the moment and begin preparations to restore the PDP to its winning ways.
