Residents of Gwoza Local Government Area in Borno State have erupted in celebration following the successful rescue of 15 women and children abducted by terrorists in Ngoshe community.
9News Nigeria reports from its North-East Correspondent, that the victims regained their freedom after a coordinated search-and-rescue operation conducted by troops of Operation Hadin Kai operating within the Mandara Mountains axis.
According to field updates monitored by 9News Nigeria, the rescue followed intense military offensives across key insurgent enclaves in Borno, where troops not only repelled multiple terrorist attacks but also launched follow-up strikes on identified hideouts.
The operation, which covered volatile corridors including Ngoshe, Banki and Kanama, saw insurgents overwhelmed and forced to retreat under sustained pressure from ground forces and air interdiction missions targeting their strongholds deep within the Sambisa forest region.
Security sources confirmed that the rescued victims had been earlier abducted during recent coordinated attacks on communities in the Gwoza axis—an area that has remained a flashpoint in Nigeria’s long-running insurgency.
9News Nigeria understands that shortly after the rescue, the victims were taken into military care for profiling, medical attention, and psychological support before reunification with their families.

In Ngoshe and surrounding communities, scenes of relief and emotional reunions were reported, as residents who had endured weeks of fear and uncertainty welcomed the development as a sign of renewed momentum in ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
This latest breakthrough comes weeks after a large-scale terrorist assault on Ngoshe, where hundreds of civilians—mostly women and children—were reportedly abducted during a violent raid, underscoring the scale of insecurity that continues to grip parts of Borno State.
Despite persistent threats, military authorities maintain that sustained offensives and intelligence-driven operations are gradually degrading terrorist capabilities across the North-East theatre.
For many in Gwoza, however, the return of the 15 rescued victims represents more than a tactical success—it is a moment of hope in a region long defined by conflict.
