The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has called on citizens, bloggers, and social media influencers to shift focus from negative portrayals of security agencies to highlighting the overlooked acts of heroism by officers.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, emphasized the need for a more balanced narrative, urging the public to amplify stories of bravery, sacrifice and success achieved by security personnel in the fight against crime.
“Can we begin to shift the narrative?” she asked, expressing concern over the trend of circulating only negative footage involving security agencies.
“The fight against crime is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement—it’s a collective one.”
SP Adeh noted that videos showcasing successful rescues, thwarted attacks, or moments of community protection play a crucial role in building public trust and demoralizing criminal elements.
She appealed to media voices to use their platforms to inspire hope rather than fear.
“I urge everyone; citizens, bloggers, influencers, let’s start amplifying the efforts, sacrifices, and silent victories of those who risk everything to protect us. Your voice matters,” the statement read.
The appeal comes amid growing national discourse around policing and public trust.
