Former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was honoured on Wednesday with an Honorary Doctorate in Political Science and International Relations at Nile University of Nigeria’s 13th Convocation ceremony.
The event, held in Abuja, also saw the formal launch of Nile University’s much-anticipated Business School, a key step in the institution’s strategic push toward global relevance and industry-driven education.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dilli Dogo emphasized Nike University commitment to academic integrity, noting that honorary degree awarded to Jonathan reflects true service and substantial national contribution.
In accepting the honour, Jonathan reiterated his long-held position that honorary doctorates should be conferred after a public servant’s tenure to avoid the appearance of political patronage.
He called on graduating students to recognize that “a certificate is just a paper” without strong character, moral values, and commitment to social good.
The VC added that Nile University’s mission is to produce “globally competitive graduates equipped with real-world skills”.
