Headline: Nigeria cannot earn peace through barrels of the gun, APC chieftain – Jerry Ogbonna warns

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), and former Senatorial aspirant for Abia North district on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, Capt Jerry Obike Ogbonna Rtd, has emphasized on the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria in view of the present myriads of economic and security challenges besetting the nation.

In a statement issued on Friday, in Umuahia, the Abia state capital, Capt Ogbonna stated that Nigeria cannot earn peace through the barrel of the gun and lamented the wanton killings necessitated by the insecurity challenges in most parts of the country.

The ex-Naval captain posited that the country need peace to enable it foster more economic and infrastructural development.

According to Ogbonna, “Let us remember that our nation needs peace North or South. It is my opinion that we cannot earn this peace through the barrel of gun.

“It is time we look back to the amnesty program in South South. Yar’adua, kastina man did it. Buhari who is a kastina man can also do it.

“Enough of the bloodshed. This unending killings is not good for the psych of our children, “he concluded.

In another development, a sociopolitical organization,Pan Nigeria Presidency of Igbo Extraction Coalition (PANPIEC), called on President Muhammadu Buhari to summon a National Reconcile meeting and treat all Nigerians as a father of the nation.

PANPIEC noted that Nigeria has the potential to be a world power but ethno- religious conflicts and elite insincerity has continued to slow its leap.

The group in a statement on Friday, by its Secretary, Mazi Chuks Ibegbu, opined that the time has come and the mood of the nation now favour an Igbo to succeed to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 .

It called on all the political parties, in the interest of Justice, equity and fairness to zone their presidential seats to the southeast Igbo bloc ahead of 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

Lamenting over the insecurity challenges in the country which it stated was a big minus to the nation, PANPIEC sued for peace and unity among all Nigerians.

According to the group, the killings and impunity at all levels diminishes the country and its citizens in the world.
