The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has realized ₦1.8 billion from the auction of 23 forfeited assets in 2024.
This was announced in a statement signed by the commission’s spokesman, Demola Bakare.
According to a report presented by the Proceeds of Crime Department (POCD) during the 2025 meeting of the Asset Disposal Committee, the exercise was carried out in line with the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act (POCA) 2022.
Speaking at the meeting, ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu said depriving the corrupt of their illicit gains remains one of the strategies in combating corruption.
Among other strategies, the chairman has been vocal on the use of asset forfeiture as an affective strategy in combating corruption in Nigeria.
“The significance of asset recovery in the fight against corruption cannot be overstated. It serves as a mechanism for restoring public resources to their rightful use,” he noted.
The Commission has presented 30 movable and immovable assets for disposal in the 2025 exercise, including four rolled-over assets from 2024, twelve immovable assets, three movable assets, and eleven batches of perishable assets.
The meeting was observed by representatives from various organizations, ensuring that the asset disposal process is conducted with fairness and transparency.
