English giants – Manchester United have held positive talks with Michael Carrick over the vacant interim manager role, with Carrick emerging as the leading candidate to take charge of the squad following Ruben Amorim’s departure.
Reports say his discussions with the club have been “very positive”, and he is now ahead of other contenders after recent meetings with club officials.
A decision on the new interim manager – expected to be confirmed within 24 to 48 hours -is imminent as United look to bring stability ahead of key upcoming fixtures. Carrick remains hopeful of accepting the job, with the club closing on formal announcement once the final decision is made.
Carrick won five Premiership League tilted while at Old Trafford before retiring in 2018. He had a short spell as caretaker manager after Solskjaer’s departure and before arrival of Ralf Rangnick.
Following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, the team was placed under temporary charge of Darren Fletcher, but the club’s hierarchy are considering more experienced interim coach for the remainder season.
However, Manchester United are also considering former Chelsea tactician Thomas Tuchel as one of the leading candidates for the head coach position.
