The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has extended its petrol sales discount across its retail outlets nationwide until October 31, 2026, clarifying that the initiative is intended to ease the burden of rising fuel prices and does not amount to a restoration of petroleum subsidy. In a statement, the company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to cushion the impact of elevated global crude oil prices, driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, on Nigerians, businesses and the wider economy.
NNPC Limited acknowledged that rising petrol prices have increased the cost of transportation, business operations and other essential daily activities, placing additional financial pressure on households and livelihoods. The company explained that the discount was initially introduced on October 1, 2026, to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
However, following the statement by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, on October 8, the initiative will now continue until the end of the month.According to NNPC, the discount is a temporary customer-relief measure designed to provide some financial reprieve amid prevailing global market uncertainties. The company stressed that the initiative applies exclusively to NNPC Retail stations and does not establish a uniform national pump price or change Nigeria’s market-based petroleum pricing framework. It also urged Nigerians to disregard claims suggesting that the discount represents a return to fuel subsidy, maintaining that its operations remain commercially responsible.
NNPC Limited further assured the public of its commitment to ensuring reliable petroleum product supply while working with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to mitigate the effects of rising fuel prices. The company said it would continue to communicate clearly on the scope and duration of its customer-relief initiatives to enable Nigerians to make informed purchasing decisions.
